Tonawanda, NY was named by the Tuscarora people and means “confluent stream.” Located in Erie County, NY, Tonawanda is at the northern edge of the county and is a part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area. 

It is home to three historic sites that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places: Kibler High School, Tonawanda Armory and US Post Office-Tonawanda. Each year, along with help the neighboring city of North Tonawanda, NY, it hosts the annual Canal Fest which celebrates the city’s historic location on the Erie Canal. The festival lasts for one week and has roughly 150, 000 people attend each year. 

Other landmarks in the city include the Gateway Harbor, Isle View Park, Niawanda Park and more.
